The speakers:

Ruth Emmerink, Consul General at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Miami

Ruth Emmerink was appointed as Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Miami in 2019, a position she took up in August 2019.

Prior to that, she served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Dutch Embassies in Manila, the Philippines (2010-2015)and Seoul, South Korea (2015-2019). Earlier in her career, Mrs. Emmerink was posted at the Embassy in Bamako, Mali, as Second Secretary, and as Senior Policy Officer at the Department of Human Rights and Peace Building at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague.

She started her career with the Dutch government in the year 2000, and with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2002.

Mrs. Emmerink holds a Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and Sociology of Non-Western Societies from the University of Amsterdam

Diederik Scheepstra, Commercial Director USA KLM

In his position as Commercial Director, Diederik is responsible for marketing and commercial performance of Air France and KLM in the USA. As the largest revenue generating market after France, with flights from 14 cities in the USA to Paris and Amsterdam and with solid yearly growth, the USA is of great strategic importance for the company. Diederik is very much engaged with transatlantic joint-venture partner Delta Air Lines and works on a daily basis to better meet the demands of today’s global traveler within this pioneering partnership.

Prior to taking up this position in June of 2017, Diederik held various other positions within Air France KLM in the fields of baggage operations, sustainability, cargo and sales in Amstelveen, Schiphol and China.

Diederik lives in New York, is happily married and is the proud father of two boys.

Maka Hutson, Counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP

Maka Hutson practices immigration law and policy at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. She has experience in aspects of immigration law, including business immigration, family immigration and removal defense. She focuses mainly on employment-based immigrant and nonimmigrant visas and advises employers on I-9 compliance and immigration-related hiring practices. She also counsels clients on visa issuance and international travel issues.

Maka maintains an active pro bono practice and represents asylum seekers and victims of human trafficking and crimes.

Before law school, she served as an international student and scholar advisor at a major research university. She is a graduate of the Moscow State Linguistic University and the University of Texas School of Law.

Maka lives in Dallas with her husband and two sons.
