  | Location:

Learning from Texas and spreading Dutch knowledge

Our ambassador Henne Schuwer came to Texas as well to check out the Dutch presence at SXSW and to discuss how the Netherlands can help in future water management with hopes of avoiding another flood like Harvey and to learn from Houston how to recover from disasters. He also spoke with several high-ranking officials in Texas, including Governor Greg Abbott and Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston. The conversation with the governor was about strengthening economic ties between Texas and the Netherlands. They also discussed the importance of agriculture to both economies and flood control post Hurricane Harvey.

The ambassador met with many people to discuss how Texas recovered from Harvey. During his time in Houston he met with the mayor and the recovery czar’s office. He also met Bill Merrel, Sam Brody of Texas A&M Galveston and Bob Mitchel (Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership) to talk about the coastal surge protection. He also met Bob Harvey, president of the Greater Houston Partnership to hear how the business community deals with Harvey.
