Opportunities for agricultural technology in Texas
What does the agriculture market look like in Texas? What are the opportunities for Dutch companies in agricultural technology? With this mission, NBSO Texas developed two reports which aim to help Dutch businesses to succeed in the Lone Star State.
Alissa Breden, Agribusiness Bachelor student and former intern of NBSO Texas, completed an extended research during the last quarter of 2019. She conducted an industry analysis, resulting in an overview of trends and opportunities in the agricultural sector in Texas. The second part of her research focused specifically on the opportunities for the Dutch business within agritech. The report shows opportunities in the areas in which the Netherlands is at the forefront, such as sustainability and robotization.
The two reports were launched on February 12, 2020 in the Netherlands, in collaboration with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), with the presence of different partners who are responsible for programming and planning activities in the agricultural sector.
The presentation was a great success. The stakeholders discussed the developments and the associated opportunities to spread Dutch knowledge and technologies internationally. Stakeholders responded positively on the indicated opportunities, that were very much in line with the expertise of the Dutch agritech sector. Texas is also of interest since it has a large agricultural market, a well-established agricultural knowledge infrastructure and accommodation costs are low. In addition, the effects of climate change are becoming drastically noticeable in Texas. To cope with this challenge the sector will need to innovate over the next years and Dutch technologies can contribute to that.
