Since its establishment in 2008, Dutch software company eVision has become market leader and innovator in operational excellence and safety. Alexander Huijsmans, Sales Director US at eVision, represents the eVision sales team in the United States, together with colleagues in the headquarters in The Hague and the regional office in The Woodlands, Texas.

eVision’s focal area is Control of Work (CoW). CoW includes all processes that enable safe work in hazardous industrial environments. Key elements are:

This information includes, for example, legislation, work processes, company policies, current state of the installation to be worked on, and other planned or current work activities that can be conflicting.

Thus, in only 9 years, eVision has become market leader in operational safety software. Our software enables our customers to not only improve safety and effectivity of people and processes, but also to achieve significant efficiency savings. eVision has contracts for the global implementation of her software solutions with the major oil and gas players, including Shell, BP, Total, Statoil, Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas and Repsol-Sinopec. With a recent global contract with a globally-operating oil company and a global partner network, we’ve set a stable basis for further expansion in the United States.
Our Houston office allows us to meet the continuously increasing demand in innovative software solutions and services in operational effectivity and safety in various vertical markets in the US. It is our mission to establish long-term relationships and to enable our customers to achieve their safety and effectivity objectives. Having a local office also allows us to deliver first-class service to our customers in the United States, which is key to our success. The American industry is a strategic market to realize further growth for eVision. From our office in the Woodlands, Texas, we support our customer base in the United States. We see the collaboration with NBSO Texas as a great opportunity to gain more knowledge and establish new contacts within the American Oil and Gas, (Petro)Chemical, and other hazardous industries. At first glance, the American culture may seem very similar to the West European culture. However, if you want to do business in the US, you do need to adapt to the culture to be successful. Although our Dutch directness and clarity (tell it like it is) is preferred over insincerity, keep in mind that some topics are considered taboo. Humor is important, but topics such as politics, race and religion should be avoided. Building up a tight network is also of crucial importance if you want to do business in this market. The NBSO’s services can contribute to this. A major part of our success is maintaining our customer relations and offering solutions that are aligned to our customers’ challenges. Americans also put a great deal of value on speedy responses and honoring commitments. Finally, it is crucial to have a good business case on the (financial) advantages and contributions to safety and quality of your solutions.

Hoewel de Amerikaanse cultuur ogenschijnlijk veel op de West-Europese manier van doen lijkt, zul je je als ondernemer toch zeker moeten aanpassen om succes te hebben. Hoewel onze Nederlandse directheid en duidelijkheid wordt geprefereerd (tell it like it is) boven indirectheid, zijn een aantal gespreksonderwerpen absolute no-gos. Humor is belangrijk, maar onderwerpen als politiek, ras, en religie zijn uit den boze. Ook het opbouwen van een hecht netwerk is van cruciaal belang wanneer je zaken wilt doen binnen deze markt. Contact met het NBSO kan hierbij veel helpen. Onderdeel van ons succes is het onderhouden van de contacten en het bieden van oplossingen voor de uitdagingen van de klant. Aan de reactie snelheid en het nakomen van afspraken wordt zeer veel waarde gehecht.
